Al Día Foundation’s Felix Varela Fellowship Program will directly prepare journalists to explore critical topics that influence society. Our fellowship program challenges journalists to think critically on issues and become researchers and scholars in topics in leadership, culture, and politics. With Al Día News, Inc as the trusted partner and guide for dynamic 21st Century Journalism, Felix Varela Fellows gains practical knowledge and skills needed to be a leader in media and media management.
The goal of the Felix Varela Fellowship Program is to strengthen the diversity of the multistakeholder model by fostering opportunities for individuals from underserved and underrepresented communities to become active leaders in the media community. Fellows are exposed to the workings of the Al Día News, Inc, are assigned a mentor, and receive training across different areas of knowledge and skill building before, during, and after their launch into their professional career.
Application round for Felix Varela Fellowship Program to be held in Philadelphia, PA and the application is now open until March 1, 2022. Please note, that you need to submit an application in order to apply for the Fellowship Program.
Application Materials Include:
1. A cover letter (2 pages maximum) introducing yourself and your career and explaining why you are applying for the fellowship.
2. A resume or CV of no more than 2 pages.
3. Two samples of published, public-facing work.
4. One letter of recommendation (attached on form): For staff, this should be from a supervisor. For freelancers, it should be from an editor. Recommenders should explain what you will contribute to and derive from this program. Supervisors’ letters should explicitly state their support of the applicant’s participation in the program, including both workshops.
